Tips for Transmasc Voice Training: Setting Your Own Goals

If you're a transmasculine person looking for tips on voice training, you're not alone. Many people in the transmasc community seek advice on how to adjust their voice to better align with their gender identity. Often, the desired changes include a voice that sounds darker, lower, and perhaps heavier. However, it’s essential to remember that not everyone’s definition of a masculine voice is the same. So, the first step in any voice journey is identifying your personal goals.

Clarify Your Voice Goals

Before you begin working on techniques or exercises, it’s crucial to get clear on what kind of voice you want to develop. Whose voices inspire you? Which ones give you that sense of gender euphoria? These are great places to start. Take note of the qualities in those voices that you find appealing—whether it’s their pitch, tone, or resonance—and use those observations to shape your vocal goals.

As you learn more about the voice, you’ll be able to identify specific characteristics and understand how to work toward them. This clarity will make the voice training process much more tailored to your unique needs and desires.

Resources for Masculinizing Your Voice

If you’re seeking structured guidance, I recommend checking out my Masculinization blog posts, which offers a variety of tips specifically for transmasculine voice training. And if you’re not taking testosterone or want to explore non-hormonal voice changes, I also offer a course called Masculinize Your Voice Without Testosterone. (Also, I'm holding a live run of this course very soon!!)

Whether you’re just starting or looking to refine your voice, the key is to find a path that aligns with your own definition of masculinity and makes you feel good about how you sound.
